Filming, stories & consent

Dignity first: how permission, safeguarding, editing and takedowns work.

Separate consent stages

Receiving help and becoming content are separate decisions. We ask for each stage separately and record the answer: (1) contact — may we get in touch about the nomination; (2) verification — may we check the information, including meeting in person; (3) filming — may we record; (4) publication — may identifiable content appear on our site and social channels, and at what level of identification; (5) paid advertising — may it be used in boosted or paid promotion; (6) sponsor association — may it be linked to a named sponsor. Saying yes to one stage never means yes to the next, and saying no to filming or publication does not affect whether we help.

Health, medical or other sensitive circumstances are only published with explicit, specific permission. For children we apply tighter safeguards: a parent or guardian consents at every stage, we minimise identifying detail, avoid using children's stories in paid advertising unless separately and explicitly agreed, and assess the risks (including a data protection impact assessment where required) before publishing.

Consent is a conversation

Help is not conditional on agreeing to publicity. Before identifiable filming or publication, we explain where content may appear and record clear permission. A person can agree to full identification, limited identification, obscured identity or no publication. A parent or legal guardian must agree for a child, and we also listen to the child's wishes where they can express them.

Editing and accuracy

We may edit for length, clarity, privacy and platform format, but we do not knowingly distort a person's words or situation. Sponsored involvement is labelled. Private messages are used only with permission and are cropped to remove unrelated or identifying details.

Changing your mind

Ask mitchellmottram@gmail.com if you want future use stopped or content removed. We act as quickly as reasonably possible and prioritise safety. We cannot guarantee removal of copies already downloaded, reposted, cached or published independently by third parties, but we will remove material under our control and consider reasonable requests to contact platforms.

Safeguarding

We do not publish home addresses, personal phone numbers, children's surnames, schools or information likely to create a safety risk. Dignity and welfare take priority over obtaining content.
